When In France....

So here we are in base camp, Roche Sur Yon after a leisurely drive down from Saint Malo this am. The drive was a doddle courtesy of the integral sat nav plus the French don't drive as madly or badly as the Italians.

We arrived around lunchtime and are about 1000m from town and more importantly le gare.

The place we are staying is fab, it's clean, spacious and had a mini kitchen built into the room which is just what we need. I was slightly apprehensive despite the fab reviews on the website that it wouldn't be up to much but glad to be proved wrong.

We took a stroll into the centre ville which is a massive building site. Huge renovations going on around the town square centred around the huge statue of Napoleon on his horse. He had connections here apparently.

Lush lunch in a brasserie over a few beers and then a wander about. Well we just wandered between the bars, not much energy for anything else...tres fatigue. I love the European outdoor cafe culture and this pm it was at its best, all works of life, old and young talking nine to the dozen outside in what was a beautiful sunny afternoon.

We sat and watched the world go by, saw the Christmas lights go up and numerous French drivers parking their cars....badly. Quick shop on the way back for camembert, bread and vin and we,re sat just chilling out now. Early night then early start tomorrow as we catch the train down to watch all the pre-race action for the day.

Bon nuit.
